TRAVELERS AID CAN PROVIDE ASSISTANCE FOR PASSENGERS SUBJECT TO NEW PASSPORT REGULATIONS
Washington DC, January 5, 2007 –New U.S. government passport regulations starting Monday, January 8, 2007, will require all air passengers to bring their passports onboard the airplane when traveling to Canada or Mexico. And beginning Monday, January 23, 2007, all air travelers entering or re-entering the United States from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Bermuda will be required to carry a valid passport. Travelers Aid takes this opportunity to remind airline passengers that the nonprofit network has “help desks” at 25 North American airports to answer travelers’ questions and assist travelers in trouble. Travelers Aid assisted 5.5 million passengers in 2006. The Travelers Aid web site, www.travelersaid.org, is the savvy traveler’s best source for the most up-to-date information at these 25 airports, including local weather conditions, flight delays, parking, etc. Travelers can also write to e-help@travelersaid.org if they have questions before they travel and receive a prompt, individualized e-mail response from a member of the group’s trained staff.
“A well-informed traveler is less likely to encounter problems during his or her journey,” notes Ray Flynt, president of Travelers Aid International. “Travelers Aid has been an important customer service partner at major airports since the 1960s. Our mission is to provide the traveling public with the information necessary to ensure a smooth and safe trip.”

Travelers Aid (TA) is the oldest, non-sectarian social welfare organization in the United States. The mission of Travelers Aid International is to advance and support a network of human service provider organizations committed to assisting individuals and families who are in transition or crisis and are disconnected from their support systems. Travelers Aid International, based in Washington DC, oversees a network of 54 social service agencies and help desks in transportation centers, including 25 airports, throughout the United States, Canada and Australia. The national office supports and assists its member organizations through communications, education, advocacy and standard-setting. It also directly operates local TA programs in Washington DC (Union Station, Reagan National and Dulles International Airports) and in the New York area at JFK and Newark Liberty International Airports.
Travelers Aid has become known as the “Number One name in airport customer assistance.” In 2005, TA assisted 5.5 million individuals at transportation centers and provided casework services to an additional 200,000 individuals in crisis. While each member agency shares the core service of helping stranded travelers, many Travelers Aid agencies provide shelter for the homeless, transitional housing, job training, counseling, local transportation assistance and other programs to help people in their communities who encounter crises as they journey through life.
